Kalinio – a bridge to communication

Kalinio helps people with limited or absent speech ability to communicate independently.

The app was designed so that a single signal is enough to select letters, words or calls for help – entirely without precise mouse control.

Assistive communication with Kalinio

Communication is one of the most fundamental human needs. It makes it possible to share wishes, thoughts and feelings and to stay connected with others.

When speaking or deliberate movements become limited or no longer possible due to an illness or disability, this can make everyday life considerably more difficult – for those affected as well as for their relatives.

Kalinio was developed to offer a simple form of assistive communication in such situations. The app reads out letters, numbers and words one after another. The desired selection can be made, for example, by clicking the mouse, clicking the tongue or opening the mouth. In this way, words, sentences or calls for help can be built up step by step and spoken aloud.

I place particular importance on Kalinio being as easy to use as possible while respecting your privacy. Microphone and camera data are – as far as technically possible – processed exclusively on your own device and not transmitted to a server.

Kalinio is continuously being developed further. Feedback from users and their relatives helps to improve the app step by step and adapt it to the demands of everyday life.
